Before & After Care

Before Your Tan

It is important that you exfoliate your skin paying particular attention to knees, elbows and heels prior to your spray tan. Your skin must be free of moisturiser, oils, deodorants, make-up or perfumes before being sprayed. These products act as a barrier, and have a negative effect on your spray tan. Any waxing or shaving should be done at least 24 hours prior to your appointment to ensure the pores of your skin are closed.

What to wear for your spray tan

Most people wear just a g-string to get the best tan possible, but this is a personal choice so wear what’s comfortable for you. You may wear underwear or not.

How long does it take?

A spray tan only takes 10 minutes and with the heat system on our tanning machines you should be free to go out and enjoy the rest of your day within 20 minutes.

What to wear after your spray tan

We recommend you wear light loose fitting clothing as full development of your spray tan will take at least 2 hours and any undue friction from tight clothing may affect the final result.

What you should be careful about

While your tan is developing, avoid activities that cause you to perspire. During the development time you should not allow your skin to become wet at all. If your skin does get splashed dab dry do not rub, add a little bit of moisturiser to the affected area blending to an even colour. After 8-12 hours you can take a warm water rinse and remove the instant bronzer.

How to look after your tan

Avoid Chlorinated pools, spas and excessive exercise. Avoid shaving or waxing following the spray tan application. Shaving and waxing can cause the tan to look patchy. If you need to shave after your tan, ensure you have a fresh razor and shave lightly, avoid dragging the razor against your skin excessively. Apply a good quality moisturizer twice daily! doing this slows down the natural exfoliation process extending the life of your tan. The more moisturizer you apply the longer your tan will last.

We want you to have your spray tan for as long as possible!

How long will your tan last?

Your tan should last between 5-10 days (longer in some cases) dependent on how well you look after it. Remember that dry skin, long showers/baths and chlorine in pools will all shorten the life of your tan. After showering, always pat the skin dry do not rub, and try to have cooler showers/baths. Your spray tan does not offer you any sun protection – please ensure you take sufficient steps to prevent sun damage, it is absolutely ok to apply sunscreen over your spray tan when exposing your skin to the sun’s rays.
